Safety

very safe

Tuscany countryside and its towns (Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano, Cortona) are consistently among Italy's safest destinations. No significant crime or risk for tourists. Driving the scenic SS2 Cassia road and SS68 roads requires care — narrow stretches, unexpected cyclists, and farm vehicles. Summer heat (July–Aug often 38°C+) is the main health risk — carry water on all outdoor excursions. Emergency: 118, 113.

Women travellers

Very safe throughout. Normal city precautions in Florence.
