Safety

safe

Koh Samui's main risks are motorbike accidents on narrow coastal roads (the no.1 cause of tourist injuries), jellyfish in the water (Oct–May hat side), and rip currents at less-patrolled beach areas. Never ride a motorbike in Koh Samui without full confidence — rental scam operators will use scratches to charge for pre-existing damage.

Women travellers

Koh Samui is generally safe for solo women in Chaweng, Bophut, and Lamai beach areas. Late-night Chaweng Soi Green Mango and Ark Bar areas can become rowdy — stay aware of surroundings.
