Safety

very safe

Geiranger is tiny and entirely safe — essentially a village of 250 people which receives hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. The main danger is the famous Ørnesvingen (Eagle Road) and Trollstigen mountain roads — stunning but hairpin bends with unguarded drops. Drive slowly and use passing places. Geirangerfjord kayaking trips should include safety briefings — the fjord water is glacier-cold (8°C in summer) and hypothermia is an immediate risk if you capsize. Emergency: 112.

Women travellers

Extremely safe. Remote natural area.
