Safety
safeDubai is one of the world's safest major cities. Violent crime is extremely rare and the city has comprehensive policing. The main legal risks are being aware of UAE laws — photography of certain sites is restricted, public behaviour laws are strictly enforced (PDA, intoxication) and VPN use is regulated. Within those frameworks, tourists can move freely at all hours.
Women travellers
Very safe for women. Western dress acceptable in tourist areas but modest dress for mosques. Metro has women-only carriages.
Culture & etiquette
- + Dress modestly in public areas (knees and shoulders covered)
- + Ask permission before photographing locals, especially women
- + Remove shoes when entering a mosque or home
- + Accept Arabic coffee/dates when offered (hospitality gesture)
- - Don't drink alcohol in public (only licensed venues)
- - Don't display public affection (holding hands OK for married couples)
- - Don't swear or make rude gestures in public
- - Don't photograph government buildings, airports, or locals without permission
