Dandeli travel guide
Dandeli is a forested adventure destination on the Kali River in Karnataka — popular for white-water rafting (Grade II–III rapids), kayaking, jungle safaris in the contiguous Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve, and hornbill watching (rare Malabar pied hornbills nest here). Less developed than Kerala/Goa adventure spots with raw nature.

- + The night jungle trail with an experienced naturalist is the most memorable Dandeli experience
- - Don't enter restricted reserve zones without forest department permission
- - Don't underestimate water hazards — the Kali River floods extremely fast in monsoon
- - Don't attempt to photograph wildlife by leaving the vehicle — leopards are present
Food to try
Kundapura Koli Saaru
Coastal Karnataka chicken curry with a coconut milk base, red chillies, tamarind and fresh Kundapura masala (a coastal Karnataka spice blend including red dried chilli, coriander and coconut); the Uttara Kannada district produces both this spice blend and the fresh coconut it requires; served with neer dosa or sannas (steamed rice cakes)
Neer Dosa with fish curry
Karnataka's transparent ultra-thin rice crepe — made with water-thin batter and dried immediately on the pan; served rolled alongside a Kali River fish curry; the Kali River provides fresh Mahseer and other river fish that local restaurants cook simply with coconut and herbs
Kadubu (rice dumplings)
Traditional Kannada steamed rice dumplings shaped in pieces of leaf — a tribal Western Ghats preparation; filled with spiced coconut and jaggery; made during festivals and available at local homestays; the leaf steaming imparts a woodland fragrance
