Safety

safe

Antalya is Turkey's most popular resort destination — well-organised, heavily touristed, and very safe in the resort zones. Main risks: extreme heat in summer (July–August exceeds 40°C); jellyfish at Konyaaltı and Lara beaches in September–October; motorbike rental accidents on hilly access roads.

Women travellers

Antalya's tourist resort strip (Kaleiçi old town, Konyaaltı Beach, Lara Beach) is very safe for solo women. Antalya is a major resort destination accustomed to international visitors. The Kaleiçi harbour area has good evening lighting and constant foot traffic.

Culture & etiquette

Beach casual. Modest in old town.
  • + Try Turkish breakfast
  • + Bargain at markets
  • + Respect calls to prayer
  • - Do not photograph port and naval facilities
  • - Dress modestly when visiting the historic Yivliminare Mosque and Karaalioğlu Park mosque area
  • - Avoid purchasing fake designer goods from beach sellers — confiscation at customs
  • - Do not accept unsolicited "free" goods (scarves, bracelets) — demand for payment follows

Food to try

Piyaz Salad

Antalya's signature white bean salad with tahini dressing, hard-boiled egg and olives — uniquely different from any other Turkish piyaz

Antalya Kebab

Minced lamb kebab on lavash bread topped with yoghurt and tomato butter sauce — a local variation richer than Istanbul versions
